The Rotary Club of Mount Waverley is actively involved in the following Youth Service Projects:
- M.U.N.A. - Model United Nations Assembly
Held in May each year, the Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) debating
competition for Year 10 students is conducted over a weekend, at the Victorian
Parliament House. It specifically assists students with their research, debating
and networking skills, in a fun environment. The kids debate 10 resolutions of a
mock United Nations Assembly covering human rights and health Issues, social
economic and environmental issues, and peace and security issues. Each team is
allocated a country to represent in a United Nations Assembly setting, and
formal debating rules and techniques are applied, and controlled by an appointed
"Secretary General". The teams can also dress up in National Costume to give
added theatre to the event.
- RYPEN - Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment
This weekend camp is organised by the Rotary Club of Boronia is held at the
Oasis Youth Camp at Mt Evelyn in May. This program is for young people between
the age of 14 - 17 years to teach the teens some leadership skills.
- RYLA - Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
This is an intensive six day program for young people aged 18 to 27, nominated
by Rotary Clubs for their community youth leadership potential. The program
covers the fundamentals and ethics of positive leadership, communication skills,
problem solving and conflict management. It is held in July each year at
Myrniong.
- N.Y.S.F. - National Youth Science Forum
NYSF provides Year 11 students with the opportunity to test drive careers in
science and engineering. The NYSF is conducted at university in Canberra and
Perth in January each year.
Summer Science School
A three day program for year 9 students who are interested in Science, is
conducted over the October school holidays, by the Australian Science Industry
Association in conjunction with participating universities.
Highvale Secondary College
Student of the Year award in Citizenship for a deserving year 12 Student.
